I notice a difference in my mails shown to me in the Linux desktop app and the Android app. The former shows only one mail, the latter shows all mails that checking via a browser shows. I've checked that the filter is set to 'all emails' for all.
It seems related to the 'local data' setting which for both apps is on the default of one month and all missing mails are older than one month. So I've changed this to 366 days for both clients.
However, the old mails still do not show up in the desktop app. Is there another filter I'm missing?
How can I use the desktop client to see all mails I can see via the browser?
No you misheard me, I don't use Discord I use this cord.

This, about RAM, is a much misunderstood bit about monitoring resource usage.
Also: cpu usage. When someone comes to me with 'panic, panic, your application is using 100% cpu', I'm like 'great, call me when it doesn't', for then there's a bottleneck elsewhere.
I'm not saying there's no such thing as software bloat (there is) but the reason that your computer magically always seems to use 80-90% of the ram no matter how much ram you install is that the computer understands empty ram doesn't do anything but ram being used to cache files makes your user experience much fasterthis is a good thing! if your computer stopped doing this everything would suddenly feel very sluggish and stuttery!

Literally every toot should be on the curriculum.
The fact that folks don't teach their kids things like this should be considered neglect.
There is a tonne of research showing that naps are healthy and part of our natural sleep cycle. All other mammals nap. We should all take an afternoon nap. The ruling classes the world over hate the idea because they imagine lost productivity.
This whole thread is gold.
I "hate follow" (for want of a better term) a few ppl like that.
Like, aside from basic morals, I don't agree with anything they say at all. That can't mean I'm right about everything, so different perspective is good.
there’s also rechargeable oak and iron air pumps and cans of fix-a-flat. I have one of the larger oak and iron pumps. It filled an R17 suv tire to 30 lbs in ten minutes. Rechargeable on usb from the car!
By larger, I mean it’s the size of a large paperback book.
Also, your car benefits from an OnStar system. I won’t buy a car without one.
Even if you know that kind of stuff, adding roadside assistance coverage to your insurance is worth it when your starter gives out and you can’t get your car started again at the rural Iowa place you stopped at to pee at after dark while road tripping home… I pay something like 13 bucks a year for it.
(I had a manual, tow driver help me pull-start it. Drove home, no stopping, and left it against the mechanic’s garage door)
also running the lid under hot water often can help too as it slightly enlarges it.
I’m always nervous whacking anything glass on a hard surface no matter how much I mentally know it’s not going to explode and kill me.
Re: banging the lid and breaking the jar ... my mom whacked the jar lid upwards from the edge with a table knife. Sometimes one method, sometimes the other.
I have a rubbery disk that I put over the lid, it gives great grip on the lid and that alone helps me open the jar most of the time.
I’ve done that for years — learned it from watching my mother. But I never ever thought about that as the reason it works.
I guess I always figured it was just breaking free … small amounts of liquid or whatever that froze it in place.
or, rather, releasing the lack of pressure. jars are sealed under vacuum, which is what holds the lid on tight and prevents bacteria ingress, and implements the "pop up" safety feature in the lid that tells you if the seal is broken.
most lids are designed with ridges so you can fit a butter knife between the threads and the side of the lid, then lever out to break the vacuum.
Oh, yeah, I get it. Just never thought about it that way before, always figured it more about something in the threads jamming it up.
But that makes perfect sense.
Speaking of, putting food while *hot* into a jar will let it seal, and gives it a chance to last longer. Especially if there's some liquid in it, turn it upside down while cooling to give it a better chance to seal.
co-signed all. Being polite is basically magic, even if you can’t afford to tip well.

There are many that will ask how you are doing, but they do not listen. They really do not care about you, they just want to pretend they do.
My pat answer: Not sure yet.
Sadly.
There are quite a few who are glad to help, but also quite a few who expect "favours" of their own preference/suggestion after offering to "help" you even though you did not ask.
Ask me how I know : -p
(Just adding to @hacks4pancakes thread, I'm sure they already know.)
These are all great words of wisdom.
You should break them up into single quotes and repost them all from time to time.
This one is like the master draft that will come in handy if you want to claim original authorship to any of them.
Do it now.

This is a fascinating one. There's all this history about the invention of the contraceptive pill and how the decision to interrupt the pills and for women to [appear to] menstruate was more a political/moral/religious/marketing decision than a medical decision.
I heard this amazing podcast about it, which I can't find right now.
One of the interesting questions is, how many times in their lives, total, would woman have menstruated in the old days before the pill?
If they were having children … not many. Because from a young age, they would spend huge blocks of their life pregnant and/or breast feeding.
this is an amazingly distilled list of things. Thank you for sharing.
One thing that stuck out for me is the wedding officiant piece. I got my license through the Church of The Latter Day Dude (#TheDudeAbides) to perform a wedding for my cousin and her now wife. It was a wonderful thing to be part of and I’m so glad I did it. ❤️

!Friendica Support
Recently I started following a prolific account that advises Mastodon followers to put them on a list and then exclude the list from the normal timeline. I wanted to do something similar in Friendica using circles, channels and channel frequency settings.
I added them in a new circle. That works fine.
My normal timeline is 'Latest posts', but I can't create a channel based on that. There is however 'Network' which I think is similar, so I used that. It seems to use 'Latest creation' sorting instead, but that's ok for now.
I set the account's channel frequency to never show in a channel (last option). They still show in their circle, so that's great.
I found I have to go to 'Settings' -> 'Display' -> 'Timelines' to actually enable the new channel for it to show up. Now I can see the new channel, great!
But, the prolific account still shows in the channel, so my experiment failed. Could this be because they always use reshare (boost) to fill their feed and maybe reshares aren't taken into account when applying the channel frequency?
How else can I achieve this?
@Michael Vogel
Ok, thanks for the reply. So it also wouldn't work for Friendica groups, I guess.
I've thought of another work-around: creating a new account on my server and follow them from there. Then switch accounts to see that timeline. My normal saved hashtag searches should surface anything I want to see under my normal account.

For many years, DSL/Cable routers by German company AVM, sold under the Fritz!Box brand, did some internal dns tweaking so that when you typed in fritz.box it would lead you to the config page of the router in your network. Now, years later, there actually is a .box TLD (Top Level Domain) and AVM forgot to register the fritz.box domain. Someone else did. And activated Certificate Pinning (HSTS). #Oops
UPDATE 2024-01-27: Their dns entries are flaky ATM, sometimes there, mostly not.

Well sure, they could not have known back in the day that .box will be a tld some day. But they could have changed the setup when it became available and they could not register it themselves
uhm sorry, no. The idea to use some tld that does not exist was a bad idea to begin with and exactly the reason why .home.arpa was introduced back in the days. this mess is a result of hanging on to a fancy idea that was probably never changed for marketing reasons or some other stupid internal company politics.
They even made it extra hard to change this! Failing to grab the official domain just adds to this. Many did see this coming for years. I did.
Same for .local for different reasons
@bekopharm @cy agreed that it was a bad idea to begin with, but AVM's use of fritz·box predates RFC 8375 (even most if not all "new" TLDs), and ICANN frowns upon the use of "private" (i.e., unregistered) domains for good reasons. (They don't have any say in what the IETF does with .arpa, though.)
What I request from AVM is to make the domain their DHCP provides configurable while keeping the DHCP and DNS of the Fritzbox.
@woelfisch even without that RFC was it only a question of time. Really anyone working in this has seen this coming.
AVM may be huge in Germany but international? cmon. Am Deutschen Wesen mal wieder, oder was?
Yeah, the ability to change this is long overdue. It's possible afair by downloading the config, set it there, recalculate the totally secret checksum and re-upload the config.
Or at least it was. I didn't keep taps. Using my own service for DNS ignoring this for years.
@bekopharm oh, it isn't (wasn't? I haven't dealt with any other home routers for quite some years...) only AVM doing that.
IIRC the whole thing started when .local was hijacked for mDNS in 2000, which was used by numerous home router vendors previously. AVM (foolishly) decided to use .box instead, though they should've registered a dedicated second-level domain under an existing TLD.
But hey, I bet marketing just loved "fritz·box"...

I have the boxset of The Shannara Chronicles, another one of these series they keep disappearing from the streaming services. It features two absolutely great actresses: Ivana Baquero and (from season two) Melise. Both are utterly cool here, which is sort of what this show is about.
Ivana was the little girl in Pan's Labyrinth and also as an adult she impresses a lot. Melise is an actress and singer who previously played 'rock chick' Lucy Stone in Big Time Rush. I was playing one of her songs just today.
Starting my rewatch of the show now.
#IvanaBaquero #Melise #TheShannaraChronicles
It is set in a time after our time, when nature has mostly recovered from us and everything is overgrown with lush forests. The story starts in the Kingdom of the Elves and with a premonition showing the end of times and the destruction of all life.
It takes a while to establish the main characters, in fact you're introduced first to some Elf characters that will not be that important in the long run.
A long time ago I saw the tv series Roswell and loved it. I started watching it for Shiri Appleby, who I knew from Xena, but would probably have watched it anyway. Shiri is nowadays besides a great actress also a great director. She was amazing in Unreal and the episodes she directed were the best.

Love story openings like that.
It's nice to see what a really great lead actress brings to a series. She not only plays her role very well, but she also captures the audience and sets the tone. I think she makes Roswell the warm and interesting show it is.
That her role would be the lead wasn't that obvious. The series is about aliens hiding in Roswell and she is just a human. But I think it works out well, to have human Liz as point of view.

Going to see Emilia Clarke. Not in person, she will be on a big screen. The Pod Generation is finally arrived in my country (NL). Release this Thursday, but prereleases all over the country this week.
Looked great in the trailer and it's always great to see Emilia.
#EmiliaClarke #ThePodGeneration
Finally saw The Pod Generation with Emilia Clarke on the big screen, it has taken a while to arrive in my country. It's today maybe even more relevant than when it was made, now we're confronted with AI wherever you go.
In some future where not just pregnancies are artificial (the 'pod' of the title) but almost everything (virtual assistants, your home, nature and I think at some point even air), a couple have a baby via a pod, or in fact the woman springs that on the man. She is a corporate type, he is relatively a hippy, and throughout this artificial pregnancy they have to figure out their roles and feelings. All in a house where the clean and clinical interior is compensated for by an almost comical amount of throw cushions, and the only clinical and somewhat dodgy seeming Womb Center.
It's an interesting investigation of the dynamics in a relationship going through pregnancy when certain restraints of the biological situation are removed. It's also questioning how much you want big tech involved in your life, in this case something as personal as pregnancy.
Emilia Clarke is this amazing actress where you don't even notice she's playing a completely different character because it seems like you've always seen her like that. But here she's not the strong and willful queen, nor the bumbling assistant, but a high performing executive with a lot of calmness about her. It does of course have a scene where she walks along the beach and touches the sand, though.
#EmiliaClarke #ThePodGeneration
So many people in reviews annoyed that the film raises questions but doesn't provide answers and I'm annoyed at those reviews. Firstly, films don't have to provide answers, you can think for yourself, after the film explored the concepts. Secondly, I think this film does provide the answers, just not in an obviously hammered home way where the plot literally gives the answer, but the conclusions the film makers draw are clear from how it affects the characters. I didn't know film watchers had gotten so lazy.
Also there's a mid-credits scene about the big tech aspect, so don't go running to the toilet just yet.
#IndiaEisley #Kite #NowWatching
Based on the kind of story you'd expect this film to be cheesier than it is. Instead, India Eisley acts her character Sawa so realistically, it's as if a real-life young assassin with amnesia has stumbled upon the film set and is trying to make sense of the clues she finds, hell-bent on exacting revenge on things in her past she can't quite remember. Some other bits of the film may live up more to the original expectation.
I disagree with the blu-ray cover image's suggestion that she doesn't play the lead character. But big names and all that.

From the set of discs I recently bought because I'm getting more and more frustrated with the non-availability of titles on the streaming services. None of the films or series in the photo are available on demand and most can't even be bought or rented on digital. Yet, hardly any discs are released nowadays, so when I find a disc for a low price that I want to have, I'm not waiting anymore for it to appear on streaming later.
Pictured: Hotel New Hampshire, The Accused, Carny, American Carnage, Roswell, Kite, Look Away.
India is acting this so well. And we get two performances, one the teenage girl Maria with confidence problems, and also her mirror image 'Airam', who is sometimes subtly different, sometimes more so.
I don't know why India Eisley is not better known. She is one of the great actresses today, able to play with much intensity and authenticity.
I'd ask similarly why Mira Sorvino didn't get the roles she (and we) deserved. But I know the answer: she got blacklisted by Weinstein for refusing his advances. This has been confirmed by others. The entertainment industry isn't a fair place.

New Year’s Eve: Musings on Y2K
At 3pm PST on 31 December, 1999, I sat down at the computer in my home office in Yakima, Washington. I logged remotely into the network at HQ and started monitoring our systems. The most critical moment would come at 4pm local time. We were in Pacific Standard Time (PST), -0800 UTC. In other words, at 4pm in Yakima, it would be midnight in Greenwich, England, where the time zone aligns with Coordinated Universal Time. (Coordinated Universal Time is abbreviated as UTC, not CUT, because there are actually other languages in the world besides English, and… never mind. Look it up if that story interests you).
Anyway.
The GPS satellites run on UTC, and our entire multi-state operation depended on GPS timing. My first hint of system failure because of a Y2K bug would occur at midnight, UTC.
Beginning at 3:55pm I began testing the major system once a minute. At 4:05pm I sent out the notice to corporate management that all was well.
I tested hourly, then, but the next critical moment wasn’t until 9pm PST, which was when midnight occurred on the US East Coast. Our equipment was all in MST and PST, but some of our many telecom providers might have systems with local time coordination in some other US time zone. (They’d all be using GPS now, but – this was 1999, and US telecommunications had plenty of legacy systems with other clocking methods).
In the end, nothing failed. Our entire system worked.
This wasn’t because Y2K was overblown.
It was because we replaced our billing system, which wasn’t able to generate an invoice after the date flip.
It was because we did software updates on several proprietary systems that would have failed.
It was because we did firmware updates, too.
Equipment inventories.
Application inventories.
Operating system inventories.
Software version inventories.
Firmware version inventories.
The reason January 1, 2000 seemed like such an ordinary day is because of the MASSIVE amount of work and money spent to make it ordinary. There are unsung heroes around the world who put in the work to update or replace systems that would’ve failed otherwise.
If you’re one of those people, I would love to hear your story.

Your process in the video looked surprisingly linear, so I figured you had some prototype, either in Krita or on paper, that you were working off.
Still cool to see it wasn't entirely figured out, as you started with the small waterfall, changed to P&C and then finally went for the empty library.
I love how much you're sharing of your process and material, always fascinating to see even if I don't paint myself and won't make concrete use of it.
It also helps me to keep focus when I start Krita: I work better with a target. If I don't, I can paint-over and change ideas forever during the first steps 😅 Thanks for noticing all the little changes on the process!
