There's so much going on that I can't post disapproving posts for every single thing. So here's just one blanket one.

It's all wrong. You know, everything. All of it. Not just in the US, but it's happening, or starting to, everywhere. The rule of law is abandoned and people are shipped off to uncontrolled foreign prisons. People's right to be who they are is removed. Institutions to help and better other people are disbanded.

We need to get back to caring about other people. Care about the next generation's ability to get educated. No matter the skin colour, no matter the social class, care about whether people can buy food. Care about people getting a fair trial. Care about people whether they are your gender or not, or have the gender you think they have, or even have a gender.

Care about other people, no matter what kind of 'other' they are.

Pinned post, about following from multiple addresses

Hi, when I follow someone I usually do this from multiple accounts, with different servers and platforms. This is partially as backup. It’s also because different software has different features. E.g. at the moment of writing I mainly post from my Friendica server, but it doesn’t yet support polls, or account migrations. So I also follow from my Pleroma server, which does notify me someone has migrated.

I also sometimes use platforms that support nomadic identity, that allows my channels on multiple servers to be synced. From software that doesn’t support that, a follow request looks like multiple separate requests from those channels.

It's weird but a lot of great actresses had really great films around that age already:


  • As mentioned Natalie Portman was 12 during filming Léon
  • Jodie Foster was 12 in Taxi Driver and got an Oscar nomination; the lesser known but maybe even better performance in The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane was in the same year
  • Chloë Grace Moretz was also 12 in Let Me In where she did a very complicated character very touchingly
  • Ivana Baquero carried Pan's Labyrinth at 11
  • Dafne Keen was 11 when she drove everybody in Logan to up their game
  • Alexa Nisenson was 11 when she put in a multilayered performance in Fear The Walking Dead. That's a tv series, but her performance is on a par with the above


Obviously they've done (or will do) great stuff later too and some like Chloë and Jodie did even earlier, but these are all goosebump performances.

Omg how can I forget Dakota Fanning. Maybe because it's actually too obvious. By that age she already had a whole film catalogue with very worthy performances and a SAG award nomination (at 8). As standout example I choose Uptown Girls, where she's the equal to top talent Brittany Murphy and she played a kid who acted like she's a grown up. She was 9. They had probably the best chemistry ever in film. I love that film.

I have this memory, maybe an incorrect memory, that for at least two Natalie Portman films after Léon, her character was still carrying around that plant until they finally ceremoniously planted it in a garden.

Now watching Brothers because of Natalie Portman, even though she doesn't play one of the brothers. Sounds like she could be the stereotypical military wife, but we'll see how it goes.

The story of the brother that was presumed dead is the more interesting one. I think the character of the wife failed to be written in an interesting way, she's just there to support the story of others. She spends a lot of time just looking at people and herding kids. I didn't like the stereotype of her warming to a guy the moment he's kind to her kids. The few moments the character is allowed emotions, Natalie does this well of course. I'd wish her feelings after learning her husband was dead could be explored more than that one scene when she's laying on her bed; the remainder of the time she has to put up a brave face for her family.
