Tomorrow it will be time again for me to go hunt for food (go to the supermarket).
in reply to Gidi Kroon

The hunt went well. It did cost some resources though to have other people help, especially with the initial stages.

I refuse to see all these people resigning Boris Johnson's cabinet as heroes however. They were ok with what he was doing and how he was doing it until very recently. To me, they're still implicated.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Over 50 people have resigned from that cabinet now. How big was that cabinet?

There's a glimmer of hope however today that enough can be enough in some circumstances.

There was a time when a politician's position could become 'untenable'...

Now, e.g. in the UK, a Prime Minister can take 'full responsibility' and then nothing happens. Other ministers can have reports published confirming they bullied staff, or wholly mismanaged an evacuation, and nothing happens.

Watching Karen David in Galavant, from dvd. It's such a great series (a musical comedy, oozing with talent and fun). Finally I own it on dvd!

I'm really the only one who walks around the fair on his own.

In American tv series a man and a woman really can't be in the same scene together without falling in love.

Season 5 of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (where #JennaOrtega voices Brooklynn) is out 21 July! That's a nice surprise, I didn't even know it was coming.

Daenerys flying on a dragon, these must have been great scenes to film. Or wouldn't it have been real?

Here’s how Dems can + must do more than wait for an election.

Let’s start w/ why:

- 7 of the 9 justices were appointed by a party that hasn’t won a popular vote more than once in 30 years

- 1 of those seats was stolen

- Several lied to Congress to secure their appointment…

Science doesn't always need to be about subatomic particles. I like these kind of stories too: the science around the wrinkling of our toes and fingers when in the bath. Includes cute picture of a monkey.

Jenna Ortega may be only a few fleeting moments in Studio 666 but she's the best thing about it and her scenes are worth buying it on iTunes. I'm watching it now and not even skipping to her bits only. I should be careful not to have my dinner coincide with the barbecue scene...

Some technical details for those interested:

  • iTunes allows you to buy some films in 4k (UHD)
  • They play, in 4k, in the app you have for your Apple TV+ subscription on your Google TV Chromecast (on a Samsung TV, though that's not relevant)
  • You can download the film to your PC and get a single .m4v file.
  • This file is however not playable in common players like VLC, so it's likely DRM protected.

A few more fleeting moments than I remembered... It would be really interesting though to see a prequel with the story of Dream Widow, some potential there.

Jenna's character is Skye Willow, the drummer of legendary 90s band Dream Widow, that you haven't heard of due to the demonic stuff that went on in the house when they recorded their album there. Now, The Foo Fighters have moved in and history may repeat itself... Jenna is part of the backstory of the house, but I think she's one of the demons haunting it as well.

And I failed in the 'not having dinner coincide with the barbecue scene' thing.

I stand with all women's right to have an abortion.

Where the full stop at the end of that sentence really carries meaning: no conditions.

I also stand with the right for same-sex couples to marry (and exist) and for the right to use contraception for everybody. Because these are next.

Watching Maleficent (2014) and regularly thinking 'that is not how it really happened!'.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Don't take this as an endorsement of this film, since it's not. Definitely not. It feels like there was a great story outline with possibilities for showing emotional depth and changing of a heart, but none of that made it into the actual story, filming and editing. Finding love in what is essentially yourself, is the best we're left with.

I missed that it was Ella Purnell as teenage Maleficent, but she was shown very shortly and only in silhouet. Still should have spotted her...

And what's this obsession in fairytales with depicting a girl's transformation into womanhood at 16?

I also dislike all these 'romantic' films and stories that essentially show the human mating ritual as the man chasing the woman showing his persistence and determination and not taking no for an answer to proof he's worthy of her, where she seems to have no other input than judging his performance of this ritual. Where's the woman's wish in all this? Her desires, her love? Are her only desires 'to be loved' and not to love someone herself?

I especially fear that some men may take this as truth and indeed not take no for an answer. And think their feelings are the only thing that counts?

It's that scene in a film where the man exclaims 'but I love you!'. Well, she doesn't love you and doesn't owe you anything.

A lot of these online advice things are based on the assumption that the underlying problem that's holding someone back is the fear of failure or rejection and try to motivate and rationalise you over that fear. For me that's not the problem, I'm ok with failure and rejection, have a lot of experience with it.

Fear of success they sometimes hint at and that's at least partially true.

Fear of ruining someone's day and being blind as to when that may be the case is more accurate for me.

Please retweet if, like me, you would like the Presidents of SAG/AFTRA, the DGA, and the WGA - all women - to encourage membership to boycott film and television production in States that outlaw abortion.

We've had to cancel so many volleyball games lately that for this next one I think I'm going to need a refresher of the rules. How many times was the ball allowed to bounce on the ground?

I've been using public transport more lately and I'm again developing the same impression I had previously when I used it regularly, which is that to the people operating these scheduled services the actual operating of these services seems optional.

tumblr is broken in a new interesting way so that's both new and familiar at the same time.

Resisted the urge to say Emma Watson (1990) when talking about Noah (2014). And now failed to resist it.

X is out on blu-ray in Europe! I saw this film in the cinema and it was amazing.

It's getting to be quite a collection...
#XMovie #JennaOrtega

in reply to Gidi Kroon

I'd have more if these streaming companies didn't tend to block dvd / blu-ray releases. I'd definitely have The Fallout, The Babysitter: Killer Queen and Yes Day if they would be released on disc. Now I'm paying HBO Max and Netflix monthly for access to these films.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Let's rewatch it now, before it gets too late and dark and I don't dare to see this scary movie anymore...

X (2022)

My technique for finding good films is to find a good actress and then see which films are smart enough to hire her, and which films she considers worthy of her time. I'm so happy to have found Jenna Ortega...

Seeing a post by an actress I follow in my timeline on Instagram, where she is promoting a film and appears all bloodied in special effects makeup (shark attack) reminded me of the time I saw a post by another actress who was all bloodied in my timeline and I thought 'great! new film!', but when I checked the caption to see what film it was, I found out it was real... (cat attack) (she's fully recovered now).

I may be the only person in the world who clicks the 'watch credits' button in Netflix.

me: how do I use product x?
google: buy product x here!
or here!
get x cheap!
five ways to buy x
other people search for 'where can I buy x'
*pages and pages more like that*
me: but I already have product x, I just want to find information about using it... :-(

Google has become impossible to use as a search engine, which is unfortunate since it is a search engine.

Watching the recent film North Hollywood for the first time, because it has #MirandaCosgrove in it.

I was going to complain that I forgot to check my Pleroma notifications for account migrations so I could do them manually in Friendica, but it seems that somehow Pleroma sometimes follows an account migration without showing the notification. (Maybe if the old account gets deleted?)

I'm already under mosquito attack sitting on my balcony, but it's too early and too warm to retreat inside. I'm going for a walk and hope they can't keep up.

I think Ella Al-Shamahi is the real-life Indiana Jones. The below photo is not really an illustration of that fact, just an interesting picture of her, though I did think of captioning it "Real-life Indiana Jones and the Dinosaur".

The photo shows Ella in Cambodia with a bird that is more than half her size (and she's not short) playfully biting her finger. The bird is a Great Hornbill.

The bird is not in captivity and free to leave the sanctuary it's in. Though it seems like paying football too much to do so. Yes, football. Watch in this amazing video Ella posted on her Instagram: instagram.com/tv/CXWVFNwDrfU/

(I may edit this post later too include the video, for now it's over my own upload limit)

People in the UK are in luck, a documentary series presented by her starts on Channel 4 tomorrow. This channel is blocked outside the UK, but apparently us in the rest of the world get this documentary series later this year. It's about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb and the curse-myth that followed.

Seen an old rebroadcast of a topical news quiz. All prime ministers featured have since gone, but despite what we thought at the time things could get worse.

Still feels weird to realise that the Commodore 64 was named after its 64kB of memory. Kilobytes, not MB or GB. Or 64 bits...

And of those 64 kilobytes, 32 kB were switched off by default and its address space used for the I/O chips. Because who needs that much memory?

There were businesses that ran their whole admin on one Commodore 64.
