I saw Deadpool & Wolverine this evening in the cinema, and the first film this morning to see what it is about. Can't say I'm a fan of the franchise. But Dafne Keen is in this one, so that is enough reason. Her role is small-ish, but not nearly as small as I feared. And if you've seen Logan back in the day (now that is a film I like), there's some nice touches where this film refers to that one.

This Friendica server is now fully updated to the previous version and run all its post-update tasks. Will start the upgrade to yesterday's new version later today; this may take several days during which either the maintenance screen is shown, or the pages just blank out. Or be much faster, who knows...
in reply to Gidi Kroon

And it is updated. Not weeks, apparently. I didn't time it, but it was some minutes, up to half an hour.

Friendica 2024.08 is just released. That's great, but I only updated to 2024.03 last week and it's still running the post update actions...
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Upgraded a test server that was already on 2024.03 and which has a very small database. Yet it gave the PHP 'white screen of death' (i.e. it crashed with an error) for several minutes. After a while it automatically came back and is now ok. So, need to panic if you get this error:

Reveal/hide
2024-08-17T20:11:26Z app [ERROR]: Uncaught Exception Error: "Call to undefined method Friendica\App::getLoggedInUserNickname()" at /***/src/Module/Home.php line 54 {"exception":"Error: Call to undefined method Friendica\\App::getLoggedInUserNickname() in /***/src/Module/Home.php:54\nStack trace:\n#0 /***/src/BaseModule.php(250): Friendica\\Module\\Home->content()\n#1 /***/src/App.php(682): Friendica\\BaseModule->run()\n#2 /***/index.php(55): Friendica\\App->runFrontend()\n#3 {main}"} - {"file":null,"line":null,"function":null,"request-id":"66c103ee0c55f","stack":"ErrorHandler::handleException (128), ErrorHandler::Friendica\\Core\\Logger\\Handler\\{closure}","uid":"81689d","process_id":1696336}
in reply to Gidi Kroon

This server made it from postupdate version 1507 to 1544 a few days ago, but it is still there. It needs to reach 1550... Now running it as a foreground process instead and the database cpu usage suggests it is really properly doing something.

Checking the information page of other people's servers and I'm not the only one still at 1544...

The film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice with Jenna Ortega has its release date in my country, NL, on Thursday 5 September, one day ahead of the US. Tickets are available from today.

Jenna Ortega is promoting Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in Mexico and just posted this red carpet photo.

Dafne Keen getting a reminder on her phone from Disney+ that Deadpool & Wolverine is in the cinema... She knows, Disney, she's in it.

Waiting for the time when companies will fall over each other to claim that there's zero AI in their products.

I like this! Promotion of the film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (in cinema 6 September), posting Astrid's three moods:

  • cozy spooky
  • hauntingly spooky
  • otherworldly spooky

Fear The Walking Dead 8x08 "Iron Tiger" spoilers

It's so amazing that Alexa Nisenson (Charlie) is back for this episode! Her acting abilities are chilling, this suddenly puts the whole thing on a new level again.

It's the final season and they're wrapping up storylines and characters. Some favourites are already gone. I knew that going in this season. And is it believable that Charlie did what she eventually did? Yes I think so, this was already signalled in the first season she was in.

Reminded that the BBC once replaced a guest that didn't show up with a 'tub of lard', which was just asked questions as normal. That's still a valid idea.

Further things I learned in photography today: ducks, like humans, are very skittish when they have a black barrel pointed at them. They don't quite panic, but they do swim the other way. Also, dragonflies are really quick.

:-(

Posting on Instagram and Pixelfed both failed, in different ways. Instagram flatly refuses, Pixelfed corrupts the photoset. Maybe trying a single picture?

in reply to Gidi Kroon

Ok, single picture on Pixelfed worked, can't post the set I wanted. Instagram finally succeeded when I copied the photos to my tablet first. So if you want to see some other pictures of my walkabout, here's the insta link: instagram.com/p/C-GmSPHo8Tn/ , or maybe wait until I start a photo blog or something.

Siena Agudong's film The 4:30 Movie will be released in the cinema 13 September!

Maybe the European title will be 'The 16:30 Film'... ;-)

The film Issac, where Dove Cameron plays Cassi, which has its release date 'coming soon' for centuries now, has its release date coming soon ('the next announcement') but also has a new title: Love Me Dead. They also say that the release is going to be worldwide!

I was photographing with my zoom lens for a while but now Mr Bird wants a word.

(Cropped and scaled down for the socials. Canon EOS R10, Canon RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM @ 150mm, ISO 320, Av f/7.1, Tv 1/320, Fv priority mode, Servo AF, Animal Subject Tracking. Yes, I should have increased the shutter speed, I forgot.)

Miranda Cosgrove has a new film coming up: The Wrong Paris for Netflix. Obviously it involves her character wanting, no needing, to be in Paris, France, but finding herself in Paris, Texas.

Emilia Clarke's film The Pod Generation is now on Amazon Prime in my country, but under a new title: "Baby to Go". I really liked this film when I saw it in the cinema, I dislike that new title.

To add your IMAP account to Outlook, we need to sync your mails to the Microsoft Cloud.

You what?

Since I didn't even ask to use Outlook, that seems like a no from me.

(The 'Learn more'-page says that this even applies to Gmail. You have the let Microsoft copy your whole Gmail inbox, all your mails, onto their servers.)

in reply to Gidi Kroon

So I added only my Microsoft mail account, figuring that they are not a third party to that. The first thing this new Outlook does is show me an advert inserted at the top of my inbox. The old Windows Mail never did that.

Switched back for now. They say that in 2024 we can't switch back anymore and we need to use the new Outlook. Hoping it doesn't turn 2024 anytime soon.

in reply to Gidi Kroon

My problem with Microsoft wanting a shadow copy of all your emails and run your accounts from their servers is this:

Your email box is one of the most sensitive things you have. It contains all information anybody needs to take over all your accounts anywhere, even take over your whole life. I pay my email provider to handle this securely, with competent people and with proper support channels. I don't pay Microsoft anything. And to provide this free service for me, they even need and keep all my email passwords. Where whoever can access them.

in reply to Gidi Kroon

The preview image you maybe see is not of today's film, weirdly.

People should stop reading reviews, including letterboxd and IMDb, and just enjoy watching films.

Really, people who make themselves 'reviewers' are just part of the anti-enjoyment brigade.

So afraid that at some point someone is going to suggest AI for reviewing documents, reviewing source code, regression testing.

...

Somebody already did, didn't they?

In-camera upscaling

This is such a depressing thing to hear. Why does everything get infected with AI?

I have link previews turned off and I'm a very literal person, so it was only after thinking that all the praise in the thread fitted with Norah Jones too, that I realised it was a misspelling...

Nora Jones just did Tiny Desk. 🎶

Here's the link for you.

BBC:

America will definitely get a new president - either the astonishing return of the criminally convicted Donald Trump or it its first ever female president.

Some there will see that as choosing the lesser evil, and I'm not sure which way they will go.

Wasn't it a line in Doctor Who where the British prime minister was eventually forced to step down by one line whispered in a bystander's ear: 'doesn't she look tired?'
