I finally succeeded in putting the Wordpress media files on S3 and served by cdn, on a test site. This should not have stumped me this much, there's a plugin for it to help and I managed to configure it on Pleroma and PeerTube without the help of a plugin. Maybe these have better instructions...

One of the issues was that the instructions of W3 Total Cache said to give minimal S3 access permissions to the access key but doesn't say what that is, so I did GetObject, PutObject and DeleteObject but that doesn't work. Blog posts acknowledge this and say to just give full permissions. Fortunately AWS had a list and it also needs ListBucket, GetObjectAcl and PutObjectAcl. Even if Acl's are disabled. Just ignore that the test upload doesn't work. Also ignore people who say that the S3 bucket needs to be open to the public.

I know Rosie Day is a great actress, but by all accounts she's a great director and producer as well. I still have to see the films she's directed, they're not very available. Her stage play she wrote got rave reviews as well. I do know she's a formidable person, I'm definitely looking out for anything she does.

The photo she posted a while back on Instagram shows what it looks like if you write a stage play just as a dare, then turn out to be really good at it. All five stars.

I don't have experience running a Mastodon server, but I notice they are under heavy load at the moment and have much delays. I have experience running a Pleroma and a Friendica server for myself. Based on that, I think if you are going to run a small server for a group of friends or family, please use Pleroma instead. For more users, especially those you don't know personally, you may need the extra moderation tools Mastodon has, but else Pleroma is much lighter. You can also consider Friendica, especially if it's only a personal server.

For costs it should be under €10 per month, maybe €3, depending how you set it up. I have in the past run Pleroma on a €3,50/month node while connected to a busy relay.

Another week, there were more people there for the live, including the guy who plays their father in the show (Patrick Warburton). They were playing a game of Never Have I Ever, and when the question came up of sneaking out of the window to go to a party your parents had forbidden you to go to, all eyes turned to Mia since her image is a bit of trouble personified (I can't speak for the real her of course). But she never had done that. Slowly they saw that only Miranda had her hand raised, having ever done that before, causing him to say in his deep booming voice: "No! Not the Good One!", which incidentally is literally a line from the show.

I can read my viewer comments without bursting into tears!

Everybody has their own way to look at films and tv shows, either focusing on the story, the director, the meaning, etc. For me it's the way the characters are written and acted.

So I've arrived at the later episodes of House of the Dragon and have a later seasons of Game of Thrones deja-vu. Maybe the characters after the time jumps can be interesting but since they're totally not consistent with the characters as they were before, I'm not into it. It's like Alicent and Rhaenyra have switched bodies, Freaky Friday style.

Actually 'Van Gogh' is pronounced 'Van Gog', but with the letters pronounced as their actual letters rather than as English.

#PeerTube has a neat opt-in mechanism in place to alleviate the fediverse ddos problem of popular videos: it's what they call redundancy. Servers that opt-in can share the load on new, trending or popular videos. Your browser, when playing a video, will fragment by fragment decide which server to get the content from, giving a smooth stream no matter what the load. The only extra requirement is that the original server is still online.

BTW, offloading storage and serving via cdn are also really easy in PeerTube, so you can go that route as well.

#feditip To open a thread, click the date or time of the post. Depending on the platform you're on (true for most, including Mastodon) click the date or time again to open the thread on the original server. Only then you get a proper view of the posts in the thread.
