A #Friendica tip, at least something I didn't know yet and just found out, is that when you're on the network timeline and you open the left side menu where the forums you're subscribed to are listed, like in this screenshot:

you can click on either the name or the icon of the forum. When you click the name, your network timeline gets filtered to show only the posts from that forum. This is similar to when you click groups or protocols in that same menu.

When you click the icon however, you get directed to the page of that forum itself, on the remote server. This could be useful if some posts have since expired on your own server.

I noticed this when clicking the icon of a non-Friendica group (gup.pe or zap), where the redirect was not possible and an ugly php error was the result. Anyway, it's a neat function.

I like how in #Friendica you can switch accounts without logging in and out. Like side-blogs.

I'm about to import my follows list from Pleroma into Friendica. This means that several accounts will be getting a follow notification from my Friendica account, including people who have not posted in a while. That may seem strange. I apologise in advance. Also to those people who have locked accounts and that I was following from Pleroma already. Please feel free to either accept or reject, or do nothing, it's completely up to you.

Thanks for everybody's understanding.

I don't understand the UK fuel crisis. In a country lead by a very right wing government, which likely believes in the market forces of supply and demand, you would expect that low supply (truck drivers) and normal demand (fuel) would be met with higher resource costs (truck driver wages) to let the market stabilise itself. And higher investment in truck driver training if needed.

Instead they are wining about drivers from low income countries having gone home, after they kicked them out. And are deploying the army to deliver fuel, presumably for free, until the drivers from the low income countries come back on temporary visas. As if they would knowing they are only going to get kicked out again.

One of the problems here is that low supply has hit rock bottom: there is no supply left. Its not just the European truck drivers who have left the country, but also European waiters, bricklayers, chefs, plumbers, electricians, you name it. Logistics companies are basically left with poaching drivers from each other. Thats great for drivers wages (and these have been too low for ages), but it doesn't help with the fuel supply.

All this has been foreseen of course. This government is not for long-term thinking. It believes in some magic form of free market, in which any demand is immediately magically matched with supply.

Last year Jenna Ortega's birthday was on a Sunday so I could spend all day watching various of her films and series. This year it was last Monday, so no such opportunity. So I've declared a birthweek instead, watching a little over the days. I've seen some of You, the film The Little Rascals Save The Day of very long ago, Saving Flora and will now continue with season three of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. I know there are some recent major films with her on Netflix, but I've seen them too recently for a rewatch. Next this weekend is her book; I've found I really need to reserve time and clear my head to read it properly, since it makes me think a lot.

In Go (the programming language, not the game) 5 nanoseconds multiplied by 1 minute is 5 minutes instead of 300 nano second-squared. And people explain that with saying that you need to make types explicit, that they aren't automatically converted like in other languages, and not with saying that it's just weird.

It isn't just me then. It's quite something for the main account of Netflix to come out with such a message about an actress who I think is amazing: "she's an icon, she's a legend, and she IS the moment."

@contodonetflix @jennaortega she's an icon, she's a legend, and she IS the moment.

Happy Birthday @jennaortega!

Jenna Ortega is a great actress you know from You, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Yes Day and will know from The Fallout, Scream and of course Wednesday where she plays the Wednesday Addams. I hope she has a great day!

With so many streaming services being American only, being a fan is often like this:

actress to her worldwide audience: I'm in a new show!
we the fans: yay!
actress: it's on paramount+! (or hulu, or hbomax, or ...)
we: oh. well, have fun. tell us how it was. can somebody make screencaps?

in reply to Gidi Kroon

While it used to be in the olden days of broadcast television:

actress: i can't talk about any new project yet, it's a big secret
(months go by)
pr for new show: show x will star your favs and begins tomorrow!
(much fanfare. appearances on all talk shows)
non-us fans: we are geo-blocked, why?
some faq: all countries want to have their own control over how and when to release and market, so there are separate licence agreements
(years go by)
some local tv station: *broadcasts show in complete silence so we all miss it*
(meanwhile)
amazon: no, we are not allowed to ship this dvd to your country

I've upgraded to Friendica 2021.09 and followed some accounts I was already following over on my Pleroma, but who were on Mastodon servers federation was broken with in the previous Friendica.

As we're getting ready for the S3 release of @YouNetflix on 15 October, I'm eagerly scanning all clues they post on social media for any sign of Ellie / @jennaortega returning in season three. None so far...

Though Ellie could be wearing the baseball cap of invisibility...

Odd bot.

So when you quote share a photo from this bot with a slightly complaint-like message, it just sends you a new photo. Maybe hoping you like that one better.

That went fine and is running smoothly. All memory that became available by removing the db got claimed by the app processes almost immediately. Almost like one of those concrete walls soaking up fresh paint.

Now wondering why loading/proxying remote images locks up everything.

in reply to Gidi Kroon

That problem seems to have gone away. Also, I have increased the size of the swapfile after top reporting 2MiB RAM left and 0.3MiB free swap size. But magically that problem went away.

So apparently the National Diversity Awards are going on in the UK tonight. Their twitter handle is "@ndawards". I misread that and thought they were giving out awards for the most cunningly drafted NDAs. I wondered how that works with the rather related secrecy and all that.

I apologise to Google for searching Kubernetes stuff all day. The pod, node, volume, whatever, hosting that part of their index must be overheating red hot by now. But I guess I learned something. And at the end of the day I didn't even misspell it that often anymore.

Why is #YouTube so broken today? It looks like they're testing a new feature ('shorts') but for me it means that I can no longer play half the videos people recently uploaded. #DesignatedCanary

Also nice of Friendica that when there are two reasons for collapsing a post, e.g. a content warning and a detected language, it makes a bulleted list of it.
