I did a quick check whether the embed functionality is working these days. My results:

  • Instagram: no
  • Twitter: yes, quite nicely
  • Tumblr: not really
  • Mastodon: not really
  • Friendica: no

The tumblr result surprised me, it is supposed to work. It is legal and not a copyright breach to include a Twitter embed of a post on your own site and it supports the poster without e.g. stealing an artist's work.

This was while testing with wordpress and its standard embed flow. When using iframely though it's quite different. (iframely is a commercial embed api provider and you can test urls at iframely.com/embed)

There Instagram works because they have a valid api key for it. Tumblr also works as it should. Surprisingly Mastodon also gets a rich embed card. Not so surprisingly anymore when I saw that their marketing docs literally mention that they include support for:


"distributed platforms such as Peertube and Mastodon"


Which leaves only Friendica, which gets the default fallback of a standard summary card.

Russia is like that stereotypical evil character in a tv show that while torturing their victim says 'just give in, you're only prolonging your suffering'.

"temporarily unsuspended", 'No refuge from campaign teams in toilets', "standing there clapping the man they just stabbed in the back". It is such a saga.

I'm almost at the end of three seasons of a Spanish series and I'm starting to learn some words. Maybe I can start to write some dialogue myself...

I don't get this anti-woke movement. Woke is a good thing. Essentially being anti-woke means you don't care about other people.

Reading about it I think 'Nutri-Score' has the same problem the energy label has: presenting a score as if it's an absolute scale, while it is very relative. E.g. a refrigerator with energy label D can use less energy than one with label A, e.g. by being smaller.

Some groups seem to think they have a freedom to cause pollution and that everyone supports them in that.

Judging by the first episode, it follows Jade in two timelines: one is 2036 ('14 years after the end') and the other is 2022 ('the end'). Siena is Billie, Jade's 'twin' sister in the 2022 timeline. Billie seems interestingly complex.

The more fries I take out of the bag to eat, the easier the bag fits back into the freezer. So this is a good thing.

That's to say, they put on a very serious face when taking the report... to the bin.

The experience of seeing women's profiles on these dating apps:


  • the photos are screenshots of other apps, like these aren't even photos of these women themselves
  • the photos are so bad that you can't even take a photo that bad anymore with any phone camera of the last decade, like these photos are rehashed from old profiles
  • the texts cut off halfway a word at the app's text size limit, like someone pasted it in from another profile without even looking at it
  • sometimes several profiles in a row have the same face, sometimes with altered facial features, as if some researchers are running an experiment
  • nobody ever reacts


It's almost as if these profiles aren't real.

I know that these dating apps put you in and show you categories that correspond with how good looking they think you yourself are, and that that means that I'm getting the bottom of the barrel since I'm of course in the lowest category myself, but it sure is the bottom.

Twitter is gaining features for online safety / experience and I hope fediverse platforms don't fall too far behind. Now they announced that you can untag yourself from a conversation. I've noticed here too many people trying to get themselves removed from some hellthread.

Though as someone in the replies points out, how is this really different from muting a thread?

It is different if the thread branches off. Maybe you want to get updates on a particular branch but not another. Although at the moment I believe neither Twitter nor any Fediverse platform does that for you.

Sad to see that people at the #AustrianGP can not feel safe, mainly due to drunk Dutch Max Verstappen fans catcalling and harassing women, shouting racial abuse and homophobic chants. This of course has to stop. I'm hoping other orange wearing fans confront them about it.

It's in Spanish so I actually have to pay attention to the subtitles.

Sometimes I see a post making an interesting point and I want to favourite it, but then I see it's just a screenshot of someone else's post elsewhere and I'm conflicted. Don't 'like' the messenger.

I'm so annoyed by reaction gif's. Maybe, just maybe, there's one use case for nft's after all where once someone used a reaction gif, no-one else ever is allowed to use it.

Though I've also said before that I think the problem is people.

I remember compiling Android overnight. Later, when I used dual boot instead of a VM it took minutes on the same pc.

So weird how on the Google TV the apps of Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon have stopped supplying surround sound with their content, while HBO Max and Apple TV+ are still working fine in the same setup.
Hints welcome, (Google TV Chromecast->Samsung TV->Marantz receiver).

The ancient 2017 apps on the Samsung TV itself work fine and provide surround sound to the same receiver.

Tomorrow it will be time again for me to go hunt for food (go to the supermarket).

The hunt went well. It did cost some resources though to have other people help, especially with the initial stages.

I refuse to see all these people resigning Boris Johnson's cabinet as heroes however. They were ok with what he was doing and how he was doing it until very recently. To me, they're still implicated.

Now, e.g. in the UK, a Prime Minister can take 'full responsibility' and then nothing happens. Other ministers can have reports published confirming they bullied staff, or wholly mismanaged an evacuation, and nothing happens.

Jenna Ortega may be only a few fleeting moments in Studio 666 but she's the best thing about it and her scenes are worth buying it on iTunes. I'm watching it now and not even skipping to her bits only. I should be careful not to have my dinner coincide with the barbecue scene...

Some technical details for those interested:


  • iTunes allows you to buy some films in 4k (UHD)
  • They play, in 4k, in the app you have for your Apple TV+ subscription on your Google TV Chromecast (on a Samsung TV, though that's not relevant)
  • You can download the film to your PC and get a single .m4v file.
  • This file is however not playable in common players like VLC, so it's likely DRM protected.

A few more fleeting moments than I remembered... It would be really interesting though to see a prequel with the story of Dream Widow, some potential there.

Jenna's character is Skye Willow, the drummer of legendary 90s band Dream Widow, that you haven't heard of due to the demonic stuff that went on in the house when they recorded their album there. Now, The Foo Fighters have moved in and history may repeat itself... Jenna is part of the backstory of the house, but I think she's one of the demons haunting it as well.

I stand with all women's right to have an abortion.

Where the full stop at the end of that sentence really carries meaning: no conditions.

I also stand with the right for same-sex couples to marry (and exist) and for the right to use contraception for everybody. Because these are next.
