I have a way too old Windows pc and an oldish but still good Linux laptop. There are some things I need Windows for and this pc is not handling it anymore. So now I am in doubt. Do I:
- buy a Windows license for over €100 and install it as a second os on my Linux laptop
- don't buy a Windows license for over €100, then install it as a second os on my Linux laptop
- buy a new Windows desktop
- buy a new Windows laptop
The thing is, to buy a new desktop/laptop that is better than my current linux laptop, it's going to cost €1500-€2000. If I'm going to be reasonable with specs, and look at minimal requirements for photo and video editing, then I end up on the same as my existing laptop. But I feel I want to be future proof... but is it worth €2000?
It basically hinges on whether I'm really ever going to do any 3D rendering and need a dedicated video card which my laptop doesn't have, or whether I'm just kidding myself I'll find the time.
That Linux laptop was probably a really good buy at the time. 16GB memory, i7 cpu, 500GB ssd storage, but a shared video card. Only the storage is probably too small for serious dual booting.
