Timeline takeovers...

I'm struggling to know what to do with 2 people I follow. They (mostly) retoot interesting stuff, which is why I follow them, but they do it in batches that produce an absolute firehose of toots that obliterates the rest of my timeline for that hour.

One of the things I value here is my ability to dip in with a cup of coffee/tea and read a range of views and thoughts.

I've unfollowed them for now, but is there a way to rate-limit folks somehow?

You can't rate-limit, but maybe you could put them into a list and mute their accounts, so they won't show up in your feed but you can still click on the list to see their posts/boosts? You'll still have to digest them in one chunk but at least you'll get to choose when

@welshpixie interesting idea, I haven't really played with lists yet - I'm not really a natural list maker so it is a feature I've ignored to date.

Yeah, same XD I've got one that's full of instance admin accounts but I keep forgetting to actually use it!

Rather than muting the accounts, Mastodon has the option (in the settings for the list) to not have the posts show up in your normal home timeline. You still need to follow the accounts though. Apologies if this was already meant with the term 'mute'.
