Can anyone suggest less corporate-oriented alternatives to using #OpenGraph (ogp.me/) to annotate HTML?

I apparently failed to bookmark and/or remember all of:
- a recent fedi conversation that included some suggestions,
- the alternatives given,
- the participants, and
- useful search terms.

@Bren Isn't microformats a sort of similar kind of thing? I'm still planning to look into it, but haven't done so yet, so I'm not sure.

I don't understand why so many cool intiatives and projects don't take the 5 min. of time to add some proper #OpenGraph metadata to their #html to save anyone cross-ref'ing it the manual labour to summarize it in a link preview.
