It's daytime and still light outside, so I'll dare to watch this horror film. I don't know anything about it, except it has Nicole Muñoz in it. She's a Canadian actress I know from the tv series Defiance. And that the film is called Pyewacket.

Pyewacket

It starts with Nicole as the typical teenage girl, into the occult, summoning evil spirits. Well, to someone like me who has seen The Craft many times, that's the template for what a teenage girl's life is like. Nicole plays the difficult relationship with the mother really touchingly, as well as the awkwardness around boys and her friends.

The beginning of the film shows her in line for a book signing and I really recognise how the film portrays the unequalness of such a situation: you are just one of many to be dealt with but you're meeting the one person you've idealised a lot.

That was a really hurtful thing to say... And maybe not that smart to say it to a girl who brought her witches starter kit.

Pyewacket
Nightmarishly scary. I like that it shows the emotions that drive someone to use black magic, as well as the despair over the consequences. Nicole Muñoz is really good as the lead character Leah and she elevates this film a step above other occult horror films.

Funny how in the making-of interview, Nicole semi-seriously mentions how Leah could have done the ritual better.
