So there are people in the US who are undecided between a clearly unqualified openly racist candidate, and a clearly qualified person of colour. Sounds to me they are not undecided at all.

Made it to the start of the Eindhoven City Run (5km, this year relegated to the Saturday and not on the actual Marathon day). Also made it to the finish, but I was too tired to take another photo. My time was 34:29, not the slowest ever despite having to hold back due to an injury (the uphill bits were difficult for more than the normal reasons). Made it back home too and added to my collection.

I'd wish they had changing facilities near the finish line, or at all since on Saturday nothing is available. It was a long cold walk back in my t-shirt... Sitting here now trying to warm back up.

My position was 1879 out of 3937 participants. There I was worrying I would not be able to finish before the closing time.

Today it's exactly one year ago that an unthinkable massacre was committed by a terrorist organisation against ordinary people in Israel. I'm still hoping the people responsible will be handed over to international courts to face justice.

During this year unthinkable war crimes have been committed in what followed as a response to that massacre. So much so that they overshadow the massacre itself in the public debate. These war crimes have to stop immediately and unilaterally. For both sides there should be no need for negotiations or agreements to stop war crimes. Stop bombing civilians, now. Stop involving civilians in your fight. I'm also hoping these war crimes go to the international courts.

These are the more immediate things I'm hoping to see happening. More idle hope I have is that someone realises that by always retaliating, the fighting never stops; a brave leader (so not one of the ones in power today) is going to decide to not hit back, breaking the circle of violence.

Apologies to the people taking the train in the south east of the Netherlands: I decided to take the train today, so naturally everything is cancelled.

It should be illegal for predatory birds to be flying overhead when I have my ultra wide lens on the camera. And I'm too lazy to change it.

"And now a word from our sponsors"

Wouldn't it be great if it really was just one word?

Walked in the woods near sunset. Found some trees.

Most rains may have been a while ago, but some paths are still flooded.

Tonight in the #BirthweekRewatch for Jenna Ortega's birthday last Friday: The Fallout. Her best film.

That opening is still great: not showing the event makes it more powerful, not less.

Interesting phone interview by The New York Times with Jenna Ortega, done just before the recent press tour for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She talks about her life, including becoming a child actress and how you learn to feign maturity early on. Also about why she deleted Twitter a few years ago.

Happy Birthday, Jenna Ortega!

She may be busy filming Wednesday season two in Ireland, but today it is also her 22nd birthday and I feel like celebrating it with a #BirthweekRewatch. A week because a Friday doesn't give enough time to rewatch all I want to see. She made so many great things!

I saw Miller's Girl twice in the cinema, because I liked it so much. Now from the comfort of my own blu-ray player.

TIL: I can wirelessly browse the photos on my camera using my phone and download the photos, even when it (the camera) is physically turned off.

yep, Bixby is right. The red spot on the bottom differentiates them from the regular "bonte specht"

Taking an interest in local affairs. The Moon.

Canon EOS R10, RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM, 400mm, F8, 1/30s, ISO 100. Auto-focus subject tracking, tripod, 10s delay, manual exposure, daylight whitebalance, cropped.

There's only a small gap between the trees where the Moon could be seen from my balcony, so I had to set this up quickly. Otherwise I may have had more time to increase the sharpness, maybe with manual focus, maybe with remote control, maybe with faster shutter speeds and higher iso. I did take multiple exposures and some already had out-of-focus leaves smeared over the Moon. It's interesting how quickly heavenly bodies move seen through 400mm. Though I think some lower exposure shots might be better than this one, I still have to check on my pc. This was just cropped on camera and sent to my phone.

It feels like yesterday but last year Mia Shanks impressed me with her first single Yesterday. Today, on her birthday, she announces her second single The Sound Of It. I'm really excited. We'll know the sound of it on 27 September.

So if you tell the Canon EOS R10 auto-focus system to focus on Saturn it's like, ok, I've got it.

Admittedly, it's very vague and it's a tiny crop from the whole photo, it being barely a spec of light, but the photo is taken with a budget camera with a budget lens and it is Saturn and the auto-focus did acquire focus. No telescope involved.

Specs: camera Canon EOS R10, lens RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM, at 400mm, F8, 1/20s, ISO 100, tripod, IS off, 10s delay, white balance daylight, manual mode, AF one-shot. Cropped heavily.

Note that Saturn is visible with the naked eye currently during the night due to being close in its rotation and being opposite the sun. This doesn't happen often. The rings should be visible with any kind of magnification, but I had no luck with my binoculars.

I may have repaired my dishwasher by cleaning it. I was operating under the theory that a dishwasher, being a machine that cleans, can't get dirty on the inside, but that turns out not to be true. Years of gunk buildup apparently gets in the way of smooth operation.

Amazon: We think you may be interested in a new HDMI cable.
Me: Why? What do you know?

(I have literally never bought an HDMI cable on Amazon)

Great to see that the large majority of people really enjoyed seeing Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, as did I, even in forums like letterboxd where otherwise sour people who don't like films seem to gather.

Jenna's role is bigger than you would expect for a sequel featuring most original characters, but her role didn't completely take over the franchise as it was for Scream. Not yet anyway. Of course I would have wanted the story to be fully about her character, yet it wasn't, it involves everybody. But at the same time, it is sort of clear that without her performance in the way only she can do, the sequel would not have worked. The other cast members have remarked in interviews that the sequel had to wait so long because she still needed to be born, grow up and become an actress, and that's true.
