I've got all three seasons of Mary Kills People on dvd now, so I'm (re-)watching it to get my Katie Douglas fix. Just started season three. So great to see her.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Season three is even better than the first two. Though Katie's role is still somewhat small, it's deeper and more heartfelt.

I dislike profile questions like "What is the current goal in your life?". The current goal in my life? Working towards making dinner. I'm posting this now here, so you can guess how well that's going.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

It starts with awareness, so that's good. Also, I have already selected potatoes to peel, so first steps going well. They are the same as yesterday when I eventually put them back and boiled rice instead.

a popular myth is that people who are Very Computer have computers that work. nothing could be further from the truth. the Very Computer are capable of generating much more novel and fascinating ways to make computers not fucking work and exercise this capability wantonly

I feel sick. What do you even do when the country's legal system openly declares that white people can kill whoever they want?

Thinking about how Jodie Foster in 1976(*), when she was 12/13yo, made four films. In one she played a prostitute (Taxi Driver), in another her character was all about seducing the male character (Bugsy Malone) and in a third her 13yo character has a sexual relationship with a 19yo boy (The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane). I haven't seen the fourth (Echoes of a Summer). What is a girl to make of that growing up? Luckily hyper smart Jodie seems to have been above all that.
#JodieFoster

(*) this is the release year. The films were made in 1975 and with Jodie's birthday in November 1962, that explains the age.

Some more Jodie Foster history, here in gangster musical comedy Bugsy Malone. Watching it now. (I'm also interested in finding her more current films of course) #JodieFoster #BugsyMalone

Forgot the image description: it's a photo of the rather plain cover of the blu-ray.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

I feel a bit for Florrie Dugger (now Florence Garland) who as Blousey played a much bigger part than Jodie's Tallulah, but she's never shown anywhere on dvd covers and the like. I guess that's the difference between having only one acting credit in imdb vs a double academy winner. She plays Blousey really well though and I think Blousey makes the film.

Another Jenna Ortega film announced today: the Foo Fighters horror comedy project Studio 666. It will be released in cinemas on 25 February 2022.

Two whole galleries have arrived! They are 'gallery in a box' by Lora Zombie, chock-full of beautiful mini prints by this great artist. Ideal for people like me who can't choose what print to buy.

I've been a fan of Stephanie Leonidas for a long time. Her major projects are Mirrormask, Crusade in Jeans, Luna, Atlantis, Defiance, Snatch and American Gothic. More recently she was in S7 of Endeavour and I'm watching the dvd now.

Maybe there's no difference between someone selling you an #NFT and someone selling you a piece of land on the Moon. Or maybe 'NFT == swamp land' is a better comparison.

Why do so many people on dating apps say they are awake and therefore not vaccinated? I think that when you are asleep it would be difficult to go to the vaccination centre and get the shot, but once you've woken up I don't see the problem.

I'll be watching Tom & Jerry: The Movie with Chloë Grace Moretz this evening. And I know she's actually in it this time, since she's the lead. Next to Tom and Jerry of course.

These credits... 'Tom as himself' 😉

It's a fun film. I especially noticed how Chloë is so natural acting opposite these animated characters. I guess that's over a decade worth of film experience and growing up acting to a camera when the other character is not necessarily there.

I'm going to watch Songbird. There is a small role for Jenna Ortega in this film, which is the reason I got the blu-ray. Even so, I think anytime she isn't the lead in a film, there has been an error in casting. The film itself isn't that well received, but I'll make my own mind up.

Seems to me there were some logic errors to the story, but if you look past that it is a quite nice romantic story. It's also not so much about a pandemic as it is about the loneliness of lockdown. Especially the substory with the wheelchair bound ex-military guy and the aspiring singer highlighted that sense of being disconnected from the rest of the world. Sofia Carson played a really nice Sara in the romance plot, more than a girl that needs saving. I know her from Descendants where she was good too of course.

Sadly Jenna's scene seems to be cut completely, she doesn't appear in the film at all, not even in the Deleted Scenes (of which there are many, almost more than a full film's worth). She did film a scene, there are behind the scenes photographs out there.

Only in the making-of I found out that they filmed it fully on mobile camera's, I didn't notice this at all while watching. These are some kind of purpose built boxes that stream to the cloud for the rest of the team. These may actually remain useful post-pandemic.

In favourite facts: birds are dinosaurs. And therefore dinosaurs are not extinct (though 'non-avian' dinosaurs are).

In weird facts: everybody 'starts' their journey on this planet inside their grandmother's body.

A woman has all the egg cells her ovaries will ever produce already present when she's born. So the egg cell that made you was already in your mother's ovaries when she was a baby in her mother's womb.

More nostalgic listening of music from my youth, now Mazzy Star with She Hangs Brightly. Hope Sandoval has such a gorgeous voice...

Weird how when I think of music being from my youth, it always ends up being from the 90s (my twenties) when I check, rather than my teens. I got into music quite late. Also MTV Europe's late night programme Post Modern with Pip Dan has been quite an influence during my university days.

Now watching Last Christmas with Emilia Clarke, since apparently it's going to disappear from Prime in a few hours. It will be interrupted by Doctor Who of course. And when the potatoes are done. It's one of those evenings. #EmiliaClarke #LastChristmas
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Aww, that's a beautiful story...

Emilia of course great in a character yet again very different from what she's done before. And I finished it with 5 minutes to spare.

Sunday is the start of the new series of Doctor Who, which as many people will know is the last for the current Doctor. But as I understand it will also be the last for Mandip Gill as Yaz, and that makes me sad.

Finally read (skimmed through) the energy transition vision document by my city that came out this month. I was wanting to read where they where going to do what when. Instead it's just some vague questions and statements. For most of the city they propose to maybe do some more heat isolation and one city block is marked for actually starting doing something. The something being to start discussing what can be done.

For all this they give themselves a time frame of 2030, so basically nothing will be happening. Quite disappointing.

I may have ordered something online which is going to cause me to complain here about our local postal service in a few weeks time. Watch this space.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Previous experience was not great. Here the post office is the only organisation authorised to perform customs tasks for incoming packages, so whichever package service is used, the package ends up with them instead of you. They will then proceed to damage your package as part of exercising their customs duty, take weeks doing that, charge you double for it and completely fail to send the package on to your house or notify you about its existence, assuming you are psychic. At least, that's what happened last time. I only got the package because another one was lost and in trying to track it down, this one turned up.

Which is why I usually order from within the EU or else from Amazon, since they handle customs stuff on the sender side.

in reply to Gidi Kroon

I stand corrected. It arrived without much problems three days early and even paying customs duty was a smooth process.

It strikes me that people on dating apps, in their description of what they are looking for, are describing the exact type of person who doesn't need to be on a dating app. Like a variation of the quote "I don't want to be in a club that would have me as a member", but something like "I want to find the kind of person on this app who isn't on this app".

How is this Virtual Reality thing going to work for blind people? Here we are, valiantly trying to add image descriptions since blind people can't see those, while Facebook Meta goes like 'Zuck that, make everything images, all around, and moving, try captioning that!'.

If it's only visual - or primarily visual - I'd say Virtual Reality is a misnomer.

I think that here on the fediverse we've always had a problem with meta.

Aimee over on Twitter as always putting the finger exactly on the spot. The news story is that in a certain murder trial the judge has ordered the lawyers not to refer to the victims as victims, since that term would be too loaded. Terms like looters and rioters are ok by the judge. Let's check, defendant: white, victims: black. Of course.
