I'll be watching Tom & Jerry: The Movie with Chloë Grace Moretz this evening. And I know she's actually in it this time, since she's the lead. Next to Tom and Jerry of course.

These credits... 'Tom as himself' 😉

It's a fun film. I especially noticed how Chloë is so natural acting opposite these animated characters. I guess that's over a decade worth of film experience and growing up acting to a camera when the other character is not necessarily there.

I'm going to watch Songbird. There is a small role for Jenna Ortega in this film, which is the reason I got the blu-ray. Even so, I think anytime she isn't the lead in a film, there has been an error in casting. The film itself isn't that well received, but I'll make my own mind up.

Seems to me there were some logic errors to the story, but if you look past that it is a quite nice romantic story. It's also not so much about a pandemic as it is about the loneliness of lockdown. Especially the substory with the wheelchair bound ex-military guy and the aspiring singer highlighted that sense of being disconnected from the rest of the world. Sofia Carson played a really nice Sara in the romance plot, more than a girl that needs saving. I know her from Descendants where she was good too of course.

Sadly Jenna's scene seems to be cut completely, she doesn't appear in the film at all, not even in the Deleted Scenes (of which there are many, almost more than a full film's worth). She did film a scene, there are behind the scenes photographs out there.

Only in the making-of I found out that they filmed it fully on mobile camera's, I didn't notice this at all while watching. These are some kind of purpose built boxes that stream to the cloud for the rest of the team. These may actually remain useful post-pandemic.

In favourite facts: birds are dinosaurs. And therefore dinosaurs are not extinct (though 'non-avian' dinosaurs are).

In weird facts: everybody 'starts' their journey on this planet inside their grandmother's body.

A woman has all the egg cells her ovaries will ever produce already present when she's born. So the egg cell that made you was already in your mother's ovaries when she was a baby in her mother's womb.

More nostalgic listening of music from my youth, now Mazzy Star with She Hangs Brightly. Hope Sandoval has such a gorgeous voice...

Weird how when I think of music being from my youth, it always ends up being from the 90s (my twenties) when I check, rather than my teens. I got into music quite late. Also MTV Europe's late night programme Post Modern with Pip Dan has been quite an influence during my university days.

Now watching Last Christmas with Emilia Clarke, since apparently it's going to disappear from Prime in a few hours. It will be interrupted by Doctor Who of course. And when the potatoes are done. It's one of those evenings. #EmiliaClarke #LastChristmas
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Aww, that's a beautiful story...

Emilia of course great in a character yet again very different from what she's done before. And I finished it with 5 minutes to spare.

"..completion of a primary vaccine series, especially with mRNA vaccines, typically leads to a more consistent & higher-titer initial antibody response [than infection-acquired immunity].

(For those in back row, STOP saying that infection acquired immunity is better...)

Sunday is the start of the new series of Doctor Who, which as many people will know is the last for the current Doctor. But as I understand it will also be the last for Mandip Gill as Yaz, and that makes me sad.

Just noticed the "can contain traces of nuts" warning on the bag of... nuts. Well it's true now, since I ate them all.

I found out that Volition, the film with Magda Apanowicz, will finally be available for people in Europe on 26 November 2021 if you don't mind German texts on your blu-ray cover.

Finally read (skimmed through) the energy transition vision document by my city that came out this month. I was wanting to read where they where going to do what when. Instead it's just some vague questions and statements. For most of the city they propose to maybe do some more heat isolation and one city block is marked for actually starting doing something. The something being to start discussing what can be done.

For all this they give themselves a time frame of 2030, so basically nothing will be happening. Quite disappointing.

I may have ordered something online which is going to cause me to complain here about our local postal service in a few weeks time. Watch this space.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Previous experience was not great. Here the post office is the only organisation authorised to perform customs tasks for incoming packages, so whichever package service is used, the package ends up with them instead of you. They will then proceed to damage your package as part of exercising their customs duty, take weeks doing that, charge you double for it and completely fail to send the package on to your house or notify you about its existence, assuming you are psychic. At least, that's what happened last time. I only got the package because another one was lost and in trying to track it down, this one turned up.

Which is why I usually order from within the EU or else from Amazon, since they handle customs stuff on the sender side.

in reply to Gidi Kroon

I stand corrected. It arrived without much problems three days early and even paying customs duty was a smooth process.

It strikes me that people on dating apps, in their description of what they are looking for, are describing the exact type of person who doesn't need to be on a dating app. Like a variation of the quote "I don't want to be in a club that would have me as a member", but something like "I want to find the kind of person on this app who isn't on this app".

How is this Virtual Reality thing going to work for blind people? Here we are, valiantly trying to add image descriptions since blind people can't see those, while Facebook Meta goes like 'Zuck that, make everything images, all around, and moving, try captioning that!'.

If it's only visual - or primarily visual - I'd say Virtual Reality is a misnomer.

I think that here on the fediverse we've always had a problem with meta.

Aimee over on Twitter as always putting the finger exactly on the spot. The news story is that in a certain murder trial the judge has ordered the lawyers not to refer to the victims as victims, since that term would be too loaded. Terms like looters and rioters are ok by the judge. Let's check, defendant: white, victims: black. Of course.

Maybe I shouldn't leave renewal of certificates so late that I have to wonder what timezone they're in.

Decades ago I tried dating sites and it was a quite bad experience. Now we have dating apps I gave it another go, but so far it's a bust. It seems that this part of life is not meant for me and I need to look for another meaning to give to life. It's also quite confrontational when the advice is to show in your profile what makes you interesting and unique and I have nothing and can only conclude that I'm not interesting at all. Anyway, my advice is to only do dating apps if you are in a state of mind where you can deal with setbacks and I'm glad I did.

This Sunday, Siena Agudong's film Upside-down Magic will be on the Disney Channel in The Netherlands: 24 October at 16:59. I've looked for it so often in the Disney+ app after hearing it was released, but not found it. It's still not there. I'm excited to finally get to see it.

Ahh, the recording failed! I was out jogging so I set it to record, but it only recorded the first bit... It's Descendants all over again which I also had to record multiple times before seeing it in full.

Need the feel-good feeling of being amazed watching great talent, so more Jenna Ortega watching it is. I still have some Richie Rich episodes left unwatched, which has the added bonus of it being lighthearted comedy.

Something is different here...

Ah, I see. Mia Serafino on the set of iCarly. She was with Miranda Cosgrove in Crowded, not iCarly(*). And they remained great friends ever since, which is why it is completely familiar to see those two together. (*I have no idea what happened in the reboot, since it doesn't broadcast here)

Now more pop with Louise and her CD Heavy Love. Well, my CD since I bought it. And I got some nice signed photo cards with it since I preordered it. I was (am) a big fan of her back in the day and I gladly supported her releasing a new CD after all that time. Then covid got in the way a bit of the comeback, but it'll be alright.

The time when she started her solo career, after leaving Eternal, was the time when you had to order video clips to be played on tv by phoning a premium phone number entering a code you could look up on teletext. At the time I knew the code for Let's Go Round Again from the top of my head...

Let's see what more Katie Douglas projects I have access to, for the Birthweek Rewatch. Annoyed I can no longer watch Mary Kills People, her performance in that was amazing, though smallish. But there's always Defiance. I'm rewatching the minisodes that came between S1 and 2, because I think that was mainly her as young Irisa. And if not, it's always worth it to watch Defiance.

And finally there's Creeped Out, where Katie plays in the season 1 finale double episode Side Show. It's the only remaining thing I can think of that I have access to. If you don't mind watching kids tv, and I don't since some of the greatest tv is kids tv and adults do themselves a disservice excluding it from their entertainment intake, you can see a performance of Katie that is perfect for the reveal at the end. So you'll have to watch it at least twice to appreciate it fully.
#KatieDouglas #BirthweekRewatch #CreepedOut
in reply to Gidi Kroon

It opens with the circus ringmaster introducing the show and I'm fully expecting someone in the audience to shout out "where's the elephant!". No, I don't make references that can be understood except by a very select few.

in reply to Gidi Kroon

Continuing with the French language songs, playing Vanessa Paradis's second CD Variations sur le meme t'aime.

in reply to Gidi Kroon

Continued with episode 1x03 of Ginny & Georgia, which has a substory with Katie's character Abby, something even her closest friends know nothing about.
