Yesterday a carpenter came round to do some work on the kitchen. He asked what work I do. When I mentioned that I made computer programs, he said that he only knew it as being about ones and zeros, but putting them in the correct order. And I guess, he's so right?

All season they're working towards this moment that the big evil throws the whole world into disarray and one double episode later big evil is just 'oh, you don't like it? we'll revert everything'.

Just saw someone posting that they couldn't see a certain film in the cinema since they didn't have anyone to see it with who had the same taste in films. Weird. I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema with anyone instead of going alone. Must be decades ago. Same for concerts.

Christina Ricci has joined Jenna Ortega in the tv series Wednesday for Netflix, where Jenna plays the title character Wednesday Addams and Christina plays another character, not an older version of the same character. This is going to be so great!

An interesting article about trigger warnings and that they may not help, or even harm. The article is from last year and discusses trigger warnings mainly in the context of material you have to read anyway. But there are more general problems with avoiding triggers mentioned, that it can make someone's ptsd central to their identity and prevent healing.

I'm rewatching Cherry since the first time I saw it the Apple TV+ stream kept having problems and I'm now seeing it in their own (but Android) app, so I have hope it'll be ok this time. So far it's 4k, with surround sound, and without buffering, so yay.

She is so good. Still thinking about this reviewer for a magazine that called her a real discovery in this film. Discovery? She's always been this good for about a decade and if I can know that, a professional reviewer should have too.

There are some technical issues with HBO Max that means I can't watch it in full resolution and I'd wish it was on the big screen of a cinema. But it'll have to do. I've waited long enough.

A tip if you're visiting a website that does overuse lambdas and cdn's for cropping and downscaling their images, i.e. every commercial website: right click or long tap the photo, select open in new tab, edit url, remove anything that is like 'width' or 'crop' and hit enter.

Click to load that address instead. You'll see that the non-downscaled photo is also on the site and is much larger: 4541x2564 pixels.

Such a waste of storage space for something no-one (but me) ever gets to see. They pay for storage, for the serverless processing and for the cdn to limit the amount of serverless processing.

The international volleyball association seems to think it's perfectly ok to let the men's world championships happen in Russia this year. The Dutch volleyball association has a very weak response of being 'surprised'.

Some say "but what if we can't buy Russian gas anymore?". Actually, let's fully stop dealing with Russia including not buying their gas. It'll be hard, but it's needed. As silver lining we can use the gas price increases to urgently switch to more sustainable energy consumption.
