An interesting article about trigger warnings and that they may not help, or even harm. The article is from last year and discusses trigger warnings mainly in the context of material you have to read anyway. But there are more general problems with avoiding triggers mentioned, that it can make someone's ptsd central to their identity and prevent healing.

I'm rewatching Cherry since the first time I saw it the Apple TV+ stream kept having problems and I'm now seeing it in their own (but Android) app, so I have hope it'll be ok this time. So far it's 4k, with surround sound, and without buffering, so yay.

Ciara Bravo is such an underrated powerhouse actress. If you don't know that yet, see this film for proof.

She is so good. Still thinking about this reviewer for a magazine that called her a real discovery in this film. Discovery? She's always been this good for about a decade and if I can know that, a professional reviewer should have too.

I've been waiting so long for this, following along on the socials when they were making it, but I can finally watch Jenna Ortega in The Fallout!

There are some technical issues with HBO Max that means I can't watch it in full resolution and I'd wish it was on the big screen of a cinema. But it'll have to do. I've waited long enough.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Wow.

Jenna Ortega is really the best. You can expect her to deliver the best performance in the world and then she still exceeds that.

company: thank you for your patience.
me: I explicitly tried to avoid the impression that I had any patience.

We're still buying Russian gas and oil. Let's stop that. Let's stop funding a war.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

This will raise energy prices, certainly. But one could argue that the energy prices should have been higher a long time ago anyway according to supply and demand, when we found out the unsustainable nature of the supply.

This Nature paper concludes that even mild cases of Covid have a substantial impact on risk of heart disease.
It should give pause for thought to all those tennis players and football players yet to be vaccinated.
And, of course, it reminds us once again that Covid is not a cold

Already dislike letterboxd, it only allows me to have four favourite films. That's not compatible with how my mind works...

Turns out the recording of a tv programme on a set-top box is adversely affected by blowing a fuse.

A tip if you're visiting a website that does overuse lambdas and cdn's for cropping and downscaling their images, i.e. every commercial website: right click or long tap the photo, select open in new tab, edit url, remove anything that is like 'width' or 'crop' and hit enter.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Example of doing that. The original photo loads as 681x383 pixels. When you edit the url by clicking the pencil icon, you see the parameters ?w=681&h=383&crop=1. Remove that. Click to load that address instead. You'll see that the non-downscaled photo is also on the site and is much larger: 4541x2564 pixels.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

Such a waste of storage space for something no-one (but me) ever gets to see. They pay for storage, for the serverless processing and for the cdn to limit the amount of serverless processing.

Interview with Jenna Ortega in WWD about her recent projects. Shame they cropped that great photo by Jonny Marlow in the article; the twitter preview crops it even weirder, so I'll include the uncropped photo you can download from their site.

It's all good rooting for the underdog, but it's not a game.

I'm trying to listen to a podcast, a neighbour is trying to drill holes in concrete. I guess they're winning, or in fact it sounds like the concrete is.

Happy Birthday Georgina Leonidas!

You may know Georgina Leonidas as Miss Molly in The Basil Brush Show or maybe from the Harry Potter films, but here she is as Cousin Maureen in Jessie Cave's Flat White series on YouTube: youtu.be/UtlTilRJotU

The international volleyball association seems to think it's perfectly ok to let the men's world championships happen in Russia this year. The Dutch volleyball association has a very weak response of being 'surprised'.

Some say "but what if we can't buy Russian gas anymore?". Actually, let's fully stop dealing with Russia including not buying their gas. It'll be hard, but it's needed. As silver lining we can use the gas price increases to urgently switch to more sustainable energy consumption.
in reply to Gidi Kroon

It may seem odd to include that last point now, but the thing is we should have done this ages ago.

If you're in the US, tomorrow Friday the 25th you can see Studio 666 in the cinema. This is a horror comedy with and by the Foo Fighters in which you can also see Jenna Ortega. Should be fun! I'm so jealous.

This is what happens if you only impose weak, token sanctions. Putin takes it as a sign it's ok to continue his war. We should have zero economic dealings with Russia and a country that so flagrantly violates international law, has no place in the UN Security Council.

Starting to suspect that people going on dates is just a myth perpetuated by the film industry to sell more films. Like the story of the emperor's new clothes, but 'you're not a worthy individual if this dating world seems invisible to you' and everybody going like, that's not me, I'm not that loser. Well, I'm the little boy.

"Heat it up but don't let it boil"

Sorry, what do you mean? Should I heat it up or not?

It seems that 2 million pounds buys the UK ruling party and ensures that no more than token sanctions will be imposed.

I don't understand why most of @DoveCameron's previous singles are suddenly inaccessible on both @TIDAL and @Spotify. Leaving only 'Boyfriend' and 'Taste of You'. Now my playlists are so empty...

MEDIA: If you use the word “peacekeepers” in your heds or subheds you are indulging Kremlin propaganda. *Stop it*. This is a Russian invasion of Europe and your *job* as a journalist is to say so clearly and unambiguously.

—a journalism professor at an R1

Putin's invasion of Ukraine seems extremely imminent and I feel so helpless. We should not accept another country to be swept of the map. Any sanctions should be complete and absolute, the Russian regime should be cut off from any international dealings whatsoever. Don't take their gas. Don't include them in any political or economic decision making. Don't do any business at all. And not in that way that it is just a card to play in any future negotiations. We're done with Putin and will not deal with him as long as he's in charge of Russia.

The worst possible thing the West can do right now is impose weak, inconsequential sanctions.

Putin will treat them as a doormat for him to step on as he further invades Ukraine.
