Hey Fedi admins, need some opinions and advice πŸ™

There's a service called FediBuzz Relay which provides highly specialised relays of particular hashtags or particular instances:

relay.fedi.buzz

When I've told admins about this service, opinions have gone in two opposite directions, with some praising it as an easy way of quickly adding specialised content to small instances, while others say it's misusing the Fediverse.

Would appreciate honest opinions about it.

I feel more like the former (adding content to small instances). We use it to find and push posts with various Indiana-related hashtags to our timelines.

I've been experimenting with my own single-user instance and I'm using FediBuzz relay. Without it, hashtags and the federated timeline are essentially unusable.

@Grow Your Own Services 🌱 Maybe it's both. Content discovery on small and single user servers wouldn't work without a relay, so it's very useful. But it's my understanding that it pulls posts from servers using an interface intended for apps and users, not for relays, so it may relay posts from servers whose admins didn't intend to push to a relay. But I'm fuzzy on the details, so I may be wrong.

To help with content discovery there are other types of relays and there are also services like newsmast that are slightly more curated.

I like it. My own instance isn't widely federated, so it's a good way to quickly add more on-topic themes to the global timeline and discern some trends.

is feel it’s the latter. It’s also not very good anymore since the api changes.

I dare prefer GetMoarFediverse and FakeRelay: it works better, and isn’t beset by FediBuzz’ problems:
