I’m DJing at a house party. Tempted to live stream it but, you know, copyright and all that jazz.

I’ll be posting YouTube links so you can follow along. These will mostly be dance tracks with some rock music thrown in. Lots of obscure numbers with some will known ones thrown in.

Follow this thread for more!

Kane West - Expenses Paid (4:13)

Not to be confused with the more famous Kanye West, Kane West is a producer for the PC Music label which pioneered the hyperpop music genre. This track isn’t very hyperpop, but it’s dirty and gritty.

Roux Spana - Love Shine (4:03)

A future funk song from the early 2010s, lots of soul samples and thick beats on this one.

Rollersaurus Sex - I’m In Love (2:24)

Another future funk song from the early 2010s. This act later changed their name to something else, and I haven’t been able to find their later stuff. But this song is a banger.

Comanche - W.T.B. (4:01)

This one is bloody intense as far as funk goes. I don’t know where they lifted the samples from, but it really goes hard. Damn.

Box of Wolves - Summer Daze (4:02)

If we’re doing a house party in the middle of July, this track is a must. Full of everything memorable about sunshine, beautiful skies, and late night parties.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - Candy Candy (3:55)

Before there was PC music, there was Kyary Pamyu Pamyu – who some say was the great innovator of hyperpop music. Either way, she’s a J-Pop icon and deserves all the praise in the world.

vincentRemember - DO YOU LOVE ME?(2022)

I’ve met Vincent Remember before. He’s an African-American fellow from Philadelphia who also plays in a rock band. But I’m telling you, he slays it when it plays vaporwave.

The Vaccines - I Always Knew (3:51)

Switching it up for some rock n’ roll. Interesting fact: the girl in this music video is the grand-daughter of Ernest Hemingway. Regardless, this is a killer track.

The Walkmen - Lost in Boston (3:42)

The Walkmen were very hot in the indie scene back in the 2010s but doesn’t get mentioned too much today. Which is too bad because this track is a scorcher!

Hawaiian Gremlins - Give It Up (3:32)

A fun little surf-goth band from Mexico. This band really knows how to get their groove on, and the chorus will get stuff in your brain for days.

Tentenko - Good Bye Good Girl (4:50)

She was once a member of the very controversial J-Pop girl group BiS, but now Tentenko makes lot of art music. In retrospect, she was quite ahead of her time.

Peace - Bloodshake (4:00)

Carrying on the indie dance theme is the fairly obscure Bloodshake which should have been a hit, but was not. Either way, this is the perfect song for tiki torches and margaritas during a hot summer day!

Ram Di Ram - Flashbacks (2:35)

Time to get funky but with a little bit of some old-style rock n’ roll thrown in. Flashbacks will get your head bopping and your feet tapping. Who has a lust for bass paired with shrieking vocals?

Hockey - Too Fake (3:43)

Carrying along the indie disco theme, here’s “Too Fake”, a track thick with synth, bass, and a wild stab of guitar with, you guessed it, classic rock vocals. This party is really picking up here 😊

Moving Units - Between Us & Them (3:06)

Time to move this from indie disco to discopunk! The beats are thicker and don’t let up! When this came out in the 2000s, this was the sound of revolution to my ears. To this day, I really wish discopunk went mainstream. But oh well, we’re treasuring it now!

The Rapture - Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks (4:05)

Hold onto your hats! This is the discopunkiest of discopunk songs that ever was created by the band that put the DFA label on the map! That’s right! It wasn’t LCD Soundsystem the kicked the door in for that label, it was The Rapture! But never mind that! It’s time to get sweaty!

Talking Heads - Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On) (5:49)

You could say that Talking Heads were the spiritual ancestor of discopunk. Of course, you could also say this about Blondie as well. But this track is so god damn good, and I suspect it’s because it’s got that Afrofunk beat going on. A classic!

Stereolab – Cybele’s Reverie (3:05)

God damn, I miss Mary Hansen’s (R.I.P.) vocals. But wow, if this isn’t one of the most hauntingly beautiful synth pop songs I’ve ever heard. This band had a gift for making perfect ear worms!

Kavinsky - Nightcall (4:16)

Time for some classic French house. You might recognize this one from the Drive soundtrack. It was right there in the intro. I highly suspect that this song inspired so much of what later became known as synthwave. So good!

Mary Jane Girls - Candy Man (4:30)

Rick James famously produced this track, and I have to say he was on top of this game. Also, the Mary Jane Girls had a look that was completely unique. That said, Joanne “JoJo” McDuffie did all the vocals for this track. This is funky as hell.

Ghostland Observatory - Sad Sad City (3:05)

Le Castle Vania - Nobody Gets Out Alive Part 2 (3:28)

Well, I don’t like being too predictable. So it’s time to throw a curveball. Here’s some raging, loud classic EDM that’s wreaking havoc! That stopped the lull. Got some cheers going for me now. People are really dancing.

Phantogram - Don’t Move (4:28)

Felix Jaehn - Shine (ft. Freddy Verano & Linying) (3:09)

Felix Jaehn has done some impressive things, and made quite a few hits. But this is one of his earlier tracks, and it’s got that classic deep house feel. And well, Linying sounds so incredibly sexy, especially when she chants “Hey!” I’m such a sucker for this kind of thing.

Anthony Red Rose - Tempo (4:07)

How about some classic 80s reggae with a little bit of dub and electro thrown in? This is – bar none – one of the best songs to come out of Jamaica. Anthony Red Rose just cooked up a perfect dance track.

The Phantom’s Revenge - Breakin Turbo Broom Dance (4:36)

Some future funk that remixes the classic 80s hip hop film Breakin’. If you haven’t seen that film, you really ought to do it. Anyway, this is a near perfect encapsulation of that most excellent film in the most future funk way possible. Love it!

Orthy - E.M.I.L.Y. (4:07)

The best single of the 2010s – and few people have even heard it. But I’m telling you, it has a build up. The best build up. And when it reaches the crescendo, you will thank me. Trust me, you’ll be glad you’ve heard this one.

Morella’s Forest - Curl (4:36)

Here’s some classic 90s shoegaze with fuzzy distortion guitar, a steady beat, and lush, lush feminine vocals that almost make you feel like you’re in the Garden of Eden. That is the way shoegaze should be!

New Order - Ceremony (4:26)

This is my most favourite song of all time. It’s perfect in every way. That bass is so memorable, in my opinion, the most memorable ever made. The other day I told my wife that when I die to play this song at my funeral. She didn’t like hearing that, but I meant it.

Johnny Ace - Pledging My Love (2:29)

R.I.P. Johnny Ace – rock n’ roll’s first casualty. This song hits way different knowing that he killed himself playing a game of Russian roulette. For good reason, this song was also used in the final scene of Bad Lieutenant. Devastating!
